What does DRI stand for? It looks like the package you need is “xorg-xdrv-mga” for fedora, try installing that with yum. So far I’ve tried Ubuntu, Fedora, and Mint. Maybe try something basic like lxde or openbox and see if CPU usage goes down. I’m using Cinnamon on Mint You may try installing xserver-xorg-video-mga-lts-xenial as suggested in this Italian forum: The drivers available from Matrox seem to only be for very old versions of Linux I think it’s only up to kernel linuc. Seem to run Win7 Ultimate fine, though. Xorg should keep a log that mentions what driver its using.
If hardware acceleration is working it would drop considerably. Contact Matrox Technical Support for more details.
PowerStream Plus Setup 2.

Any tips or pointers from others that lunux done similar and succeeded would be welcome. Normally xorg autodetects everything, but in some cases like to use proprietary nvidia or fglrx drivers it helps to specify.
